Tóm tắt: khủng long Ultracold CH radicals promise a fruitful testbed for probing quantum-statecontrollable organic chemistry. In this work, we calculate CH vibrationalbranching ratios (VBRs) and rotational branching ratios (RBRs) with groundstate mixing. We subsequently use these values to inform optical cyclingproposals and consider two possible radiative cooling schemes using the$X^{2}Πleftarrow A^{2}Δ$ and $X^{2}Πleftarrow B^{2}Σ^{-}$transitions. As a first step towards laser cooled CH, we characterize theeffective buffer gas cooling of this species and produce $sim5times10^{10}$CH molecules per pulse with a rotational temperature of 2(1) K and atranslational temperature of 7(2) K. We also determine the CH-heliumcollisional cross section to be $2.4(8)times10^{-14}$ cm$^{2}$. This value iscrucial to correctly account for collisional broadening and accurately extractthe in-cell CH density. These cold CH molecules mark an ideal starting pointfor future laser cooling and trapping experiments and tests of cold organicchemistry.

Tóm tắt: khủng long A relativistic electron beam propagating through a plasma in the ion-focused regime exhibits an electromagnetic instability with peak growth rate near a resonant frequency ensuremath{omega}ensuremath{sim}2${ensuremath{gamma}}^{2}$${mathrm{ensuremath{omega}}}_{mathrm{ensuremath{beta}}}$. Growth is enhanced by optical guiding in the ion channel, which acts as a dielectric waveguide, with fiber parameter Vensuremath{sim}1(I/${mathit{I}}_{mathit{A}}$${)}^{1/2}$. A 1D theory for a laser making use of this instability is formulated, scaling laws are derived, and numerical examples are given. Possible experimental evidence is noted.

Tóm tắt: khủng long An optical parametric oscillator (OPO) is developed and characterized for the simultaneous generation of ultraviolet (UV) and near-UV nanosecond laser pulses for the single-shot Rayleigh scattering and planar laser-induced-fluorescence (PLIF) imaging of methylidyne (CH) and nitric oxide (NO) in turbulent flames. The OPO is pumped by a multichannel, 8-pulse Nd:YAG laser cluster that produces up to 225 mJ/pulse at 355 nm with pulse spacing of 100 µs. The pulsed OPO has a conversion efficiency of 9.6% to the signal wavelength of ∼430nm when pumped by the multimode laser. Second harmonic conversion of the signal, with 3.8% efficiency, is used for the electronic excitation of the A-X (1,0) band of NO at ∼215nm, while the residual signal at 430 nm is used for direct excitation of the A-X (0,0) band of the CH radical and elastic Rayleigh scattering. The section of the OPO signal wavelength for simultaneous CH and NO PLIF imaging is performed with consideration of the pulse energy, interference from the reactant and product species, and the fluorescence signal intensity. The excitation wavelengths of 430.7 nm and 215.35 nm are studied in a laminar, premixed CH4−H2−NH3–air flame. Single-shot CH and NO PLIF and Rayleigh scatter imaging is demonstrated in a turbulent CH4−H2−NH3 diffusion flame using a high-speed intensified CMOS camera. Analysis of the complementary Rayleigh scattering and CH and NO PLIF enables identification and quantification of the high-temperature flame layers, the combustion product zones, and the fuel-jet core. Considerations for extension to simultaneous, 10-kHz-rate acquisition are discussed.
